Ma Thoughts: Lazer Team

Lazer Team is the first feature film from digital production company, of Red Vs Blue fame, Rooster Teeth. Crowd funded via Indiegogo, Lazer Team was a hotly anticipated (well in some circles) sci-fi comedy.

The question remains, can the guys known for producing hilarious short form content translate their talents to feature length? Check the review to find out!

Lazer Team is the story of four horrendously below-average guys, an alien super-weapon and a square-jawed hero.

An ancient alien race bequeath a suit of power armour to earth in order to help protect us from an intergalactic threat. In order to maximise our chances of survival, the US military (naturally) raise a square-jawed champion, whose destiny is to wear the armour, chew bubblegum and ultimately kick some serious alien anus.

However, things go terribly awry when four schlubs accidentally fire a big-ass firework at the power armour’s delivery craft. The four guys each don a piece of the armour and hilarity ensues.

Now we’ve got that out of the way, let’s discuss whether the movie was any good. In short, fuck yes. I went into this not knowing anything about it and left with a massive smile on my face. Although their crowd funding campaign smashed records, it was still a modest budget by any standards. But what these guys were able to achieve is a great example of what some talent, a good script and a dab hand at the old After Effects can get you.

The comedy zings from character to character and is just the right side of raucous. Some of the jokes could end up firmly in the Porkies land of comedy, but the great performances by the four leads and the self-aware goofiness makes sure that this movie avoids those pitfalls.

This is the type of sci-fi comedy that definitely gives a nod of the hat to great movies of this type such as Ghostbusters and...ahem Evolution (I love that movie...).

If there are any criticisms it could be that it’s maybe a little too long, or drags slightly at bits. Sometimes it’s a little too goofy but that maybe me being a likkle bit of a cynical asshole.
Lazer Team was pretty good though, especially considering who made it and for what budget. I would definitely recommend you go seek this one out if you like watching shit get blown-up and like to laugh at dick jokes, haha dicks..

Boston Celtic Preview 2017/18

So the Celtics finally acquired the talents of Gordan StayHayward. Having led Utah to a decent playoff run he was just about ready to receive the giant Mormon key to the city. Utah was offering him one hell of max contract, a reported shit ton of dollars (give or take a fuck ton) to be a big fish in a very, very small pond. I'd follow Daryl to the ends of the earth. I guess he feels like he isn’t the small pond type. Gordon Hayward jumped ship and joined his old college coach, Brad Stevens, in Boston. Boston Rising Boston has been on the rise for some time now. Brad Stevens has created a scrappy team in New England and Danny Ainge has swindled a thousand draft picks and is just itching to drop them like Yu Gi Oh dropping Exodiar on a bitch, Bloaw! I summon draft picks.. IN DEFENSE MODE! Before the Celtics picked Jayson Tatum first in the draft, there were talks of them trying to lure the services of unsettled small forward, Paul George and the also unsettled

Funky Fresh NBA 2015/16 Preview Pt 1

As I'm about to write this here blog post I’ve got the Red Hot Chilli Peppers song “Suck My Kiss” playing on loop in my brain sack. Why, I hear no one ask? Well I’ll tell you! NBA 2K15 has stolen all of my free time. Yes I know, I’m late to the party but you know what, I’m also mad cheap and only paid £25 for that shit on preowned, so have a coke and a smile etc etc. So enough of the trademarked Flim-Flammery and on to the meat and or potatoes of this post; previewing the 2015-2016 NBA season! Now we can’t look into the future without having a brief look into the past and having a quick gander and what transpired last year and how it will impact the next! The Champ Is Here! First of all we crowned new NBA champions in the Golden State Warriors (GSW), who won their first title since the 70’s. They didn’t just win it, they walked it like a doawg. They also dispelled one of those oft quoted maxims about elite basketball teams not being “jump shooting” teams.  Most “jump s

MaThoughts: Metal Gear Solid - Ground Zeroes

I have been a huge fan of the Metal Gear series since the first Metal Gear Solid was released on the PS1 in 1999. While waiting for Metal Gear Solid 2 to drop, I remember being at a level of fever-pitch excitement I don’t think I’ve felt since. Regardless of how much I’ve enjoyed the Metal Gear Series, I’ve never really enjoyed “playing” Metal Gear Solid. The controls were always too complicated, the shooting always a little off and the boss fights bored my arse off; there are only so many times you can run in a circle, occasionally shooting at a boss while he spews ridiculous dialogue at you. With Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes the gameplay has finally caught up to the lofty narrative aspirations of game designer and professional nut-job, Hideo Kojima. Never have I felt more like the “legendary soldier” as I have while playing Ground Zeroes, and it’s the smart changes to the overall gameplay systems, and the modernisation of the control scheme that has allowed this to
